For Patients

Patient information

Before your appointment

Patient safety and comfort are our top priorities. Depending on the procedure, your surgery may be performed under local anaesthetic, sedation, or general anaesthetic. Your surgeon will discuss the most suitable option for you during your consultation.

Local anaesthetic procedures

Some procedures are suitable to be done under local anaesthetic (for example, many skin cancer procedures and some aesthetic procedures). Local anaesthetic procedures will be carried out in our specifically design procedure room at Terrace Plastic Surgery. Local anaesthetic procedures require a series of injections to numb the part of the body being operated on. Local anaesthetic generally has fewer side-effects and risks than a general anaesthetic. Your surgeon will be able to advise you after your initial consult whether the procedure is suitable to be carried out under local anaesthetic.

Procedures requiring sedation or a general anaesthetic

Many procedures require a general anaesthetic or sedation and will need to be carried out at a private hospital. The surgeons at Terrace Plastic Surgery work at several private hospitals including the Mater Private Hospital, Mater Private Children’s Hospital, Brisbane Private Hospital, and St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital. The team Terrace Plastic Surgery will direct and coordinate this care.
